What is SEO?

SEO or Search Engine Optimization is the process improving website visibility i.e. in terms of lay man we can say that when we search page using Google, Bing,Yahoo the site should be in top order where user can see the site address.

There are million of sites that has same content as your site so acquiring the knowledge of SEO could give you the power to beat your competitor. Normally User visits only those sites which comes in top place in search engine.

Inorder to know about SEO process lets first discuss about the searching tactics of web search engine.

How Search Engine Works ?

Web search engine are the sites that search the web. We can say web search engine is a index or table of contents of web. Web contains millions of sites, it is not possible to know about all sites. So web search engine sites like google, yahoo, bing and other makes the job easier for us. Search engine indexed the page for us and whenever we search for the specific word or things search engine checked their database for the site that contains that words and it returns the link through which we can reach that site.There are differences in the ways various search engines work, but they all perform three basic tasks:

• >> They search the Internet -- or select pieces of the Internet -- based on important words.

• >> They keep an index of the words they find, and where they find them.

• >> They allow users to look for words or combinations of words found in that index.

All search engine consists of a crawler that crawls the site and extracts necessary information from the site and store it on their own database. And when user searches through that search engine it checks all the combinations of the word searched by the user in Search engine database and return the output in-terms of links i.e. the name of the site which contains the word searched by the user.

In techie language the searched word is known as keyword.OK,lets discuss the things that is considered by the search engine important and on the basis of which it calculates the order of the page to be displayed. The technical terms to calculate page order is known as Page Ranking. High the the page rank higher is the order of the page to be displayed.

Inorder to be in top of the search engine the things that is considered to be important for search engine is

• >> Keyword :- Keyword is the word i.e. searched by the user.On the basis of keyword page is considered to be eligible for display. We should make efficient use of word used in site like header, bold character, quotations,size of character, all these things is considered important by the crawler and stored in database. If same word is repeated many times it is too considered as important.

• >> Links :-  Second thing is no of internal and external links. Higher the no of external links higher the page rank of the site and higher the position of the site in search engine.
